On 10 November 2011 German Federal Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger appointed the communications consultant Jörg Litwinschuh as the full-time Chair of the Magnus Hirschfeld Foundation. The Federal Republic of Germany (represented by the BMJ) fiscally established the Magnus Hirschfeld Foundation on 27 October 2011. The Foundation was legally recognized on 7 November 2011 in accordance with § 2 section 1 of the Berlin Foundation Act in the version published on 22.7.2003 (GVBl. p. 293) by the Senate Department for Justice through Senator Gisela von der Aue (3416/971/2).
